Malbec

Malbec: Main Image

Style

Southwestern France

French Malbec usually has a traditional rustic, earthy edge to it with less obvious fruit, higher tannins, and more gamy notes of wild herbs and soil. Although there are some examples of 100% Malbec, it is more commonly blended with other traditional varietals of the region.

Argentina and Chile

Malbec is Argentina’s most important red varietal and is quickly gaining popularity in Chile as well. Produced in a rich, powerful style, the emphasis here is on smoky ripe fruit flavors, spicy toasty oak, with a plush, fleshy texture.
