Wholesome Sweeteners Beginnings

 Based in Sugar Land, Texas, Wholesome Sweeteners is a young company, founded in 1995, with generations of experience and expertise behind it.  Our company was created to supply the highest quality natural and organic sweeteners from around the world.  Wholesome Sweeteners now offers a full line of certified organic and natural sugars, all produced from sugar cane, in a variety of formats including crystals, quick-dissolving granules, liquids and powders.  The rich flavors and natural colors of our sugars are so diverse that your only real problem will be choosing the right sweeteners to suit your needs! 

The company is a joint venture between Edward Billington & Son, Europe’s leading importer of natural and organic unrefined sugars and Imperial Sugar Incorporated, the largest US sugar company.  Billington’s, the majority shareholder, is a diverse, international foods and agriculture group.  It is one of Britain’s largest, privately owned family businesses, recognized for quality, service and innovation. 

Established in 1858, it has nearly 150 years of knowledge and experience in organic and all-natural farming and extensive expertise in sourcing the finest quality sugars across the globe.  In 1992, Billington’s was the first company in the world to bring a certified organic sugar to market.    Imperial Sugar is also a well-known and respected name in the industry.  The Imperial Sugar Company sells several of the best-known brands in the US and is a major supplier to the mass retail, food ingredient and food service markets.   The partnership was formed after the successful test marketing of Billington’s Natural Sugars in the Texas retail market.  The venture now encompasses all the organic and natural sugar assets of both companies in the United States and aims to be the leading supplier of these products to the US retail and food manufacturing markets.   So, although Wholesome Sweeteners is a small, independent company, we are in the enviable position of being able to draw upon the expansive resources of our two parent companies.  This enables us to react quickly and expediently to resolve any issue that may arise.
